Every once in a while, you come across a dish that you just can't live without. You go to a restaurant, try something new, and BAM. There's no turning back. You try and see other dishes. Hey, maybe this long term commitment thing isn't for you. You try something new. But, man, it's hard to break old habits. You quickly find yourself back to square one. Some may call it needy. Some may say you're resorting back to your old ways. But at least you're happy.
I've been going to El Torito for the past ten or so years. It's my family's restaurant of choice for birthdays, family dinners, and even date nights with J. Manny has been our go-to server for the past ten years and he always extends a warm, kind hand to us. I can't imagine what we'd do without Manny and the great food at El Torito! While every dish is tasty, one in particular has my heart.
Two words: Chicken. Flautas. And not just any old flautas that your abuelita makes. I'm talking El Torito flautas. Crsipy flour shell and warm chicken and peppers inside. While a plate comes with six flautas, rice, beans, and a delicious corn cake, I always substitute the rice and beans for a crisp Mexican Caeasar salad with their secret dressing. (Warning: I once bought the El Torito dressing from an Albertson's and was thoroughly disappointed. Save yourself the hassle and only eat it on location.) Dip the warm, crispy flautas in the guacamole and you're on your way to taste bud heaven. I only finish three out of the six flautas at the restaurant and always take the remaining three home for breakfast the next day. Maybe I'm crazy, but they taste just as delicious when cold.
After El Torito revamped their menu, chicken flautas were nowhere to be found. I was so distressed, I'm fairly certain table 20 thought I was having a panic attack. However, Manny has always been able to special order the flautas for me without a hassle. Restaurants (and stores) that are kind to their customers will always have my business. Thanks Manny for always pulling strings to get my favorite meal into my belly every time!
