I am a HUGE smoothie fan! I think my obsession started when Neopets offered a special deal in conjunction with Jamba Juice many years ago. I just had to get that special paintbrush!
My favorite flavor at Jamba Juice is Carribbean Passion. Their website says it includes strawberries, peaches, passion fruit-mango juice, and orange sherbert. Sounds like a deal to me! However, I don't always have time to make it to Jamba Juice. When I saw the "make at home" packets at my local grocery store, I knew I had to give it a try!
The packet is literally just filled with frozen fruit; you have to add apple juice as the base when you blend. I chose Simple Truth Organic Apple Juice. The packet, which was around $4 has two 8 oz servings means it's exactly the same as a small or "Sixteen" at Jamba. Price wise, it was only a matter of about a dollar that I was saving, and I still needed to add my own apple juice.
It tasted pretty spot on, but I did find it odd that a recipe that didn't call for apple juice in-store needed it when you make it at home. A+ for convenience, but there wasn't a substantial price difference. It was filling and I didn't need to eat anything else for a meal, so it did act as a good meal replacement.
If you live far from a Jamba Juice, I'd recommend these. However, if you live close, might as well take a trip down to the delicious-smelling environment and pay less than a dollar more for the "real deal". When you're down there, try out the "Make it Light" option that they have!
What's your favorite Jamba Juice flavor? Have you tried any of the home packets?
In all things delicious,
Nats
